Stone-Shield Captain
Appearance
Lean and athletic with the understated precision of someone who has trained every day for decades. His skin carries a subtle blue iridescence, and his midnight-blue hair falls to his shoulders. Emerald and azure eyes with gold flecks give him an unsettling attentiveness. He wears deep-blue and silver engraved armor, carries a curved sword, and is rarely seen without the swirling orbiting stones that serve as his shield — slow enough to read, fast enough to kill.
Abilities
- ◆Abjuration magic — negation fields, wards, and defensive barriers
- ◆Earth and stone mastery — levitating stones, anchoring shields, structural manipulation
- ◆Air magic — mobility enhancement and strike amplification
- ◆Curved sword combat — disciplined, efficient, trained for prolonged engagements
- ◆Floating stone shield array — orbiting projectiles that defend and attack simultaneously
Costs & Stakes
Caelum's binding oaths to Mystaris are not symbolic — they carry real consequences if broken. Extending protection to outsiders risks political backlash from within the court. More pressingly, the truths he begins to uncover about Queen Xanthea are not truths he can unknow, and they are already beginning to shake the loyalty that has defined his entire life.
Tome I → Tome II Arc
Caelum begins as a formidable guard and loyal servant of the crown. Through his encounters with Thomas and the party in Tome I he becomes something more complicated — a nuanced ally working within a system he is no longer sure deserves his trust. In Tome II he becomes a key spine of Mystaris's defense, holding a line between duty and conscience.
