Azure Catalyst / Unprepared Pathfinder
Appearance
Athletic build with short brown hair and a trimmed beard. After bonding with the artifact his hair shifts hues, settling mostly to azure. His most striking feature is the living tattoos that move and react across his skin — ancient scripts serving as a direct interface with Astrylis. He wears a white shirt with black suspenders and trousers, later adding a hooded shirt gifted by Nimh, a utility belt acquired in Coralyne, and a destiny-gifted sword from an Elyndor Royal Guard.
Abilities
- ◆Azure fireballs — ranged, innate, grows more controlled over time
- ◆Shattering blue-light rectangles — chaotic, random, and not yet under his control
- ◆Electric knockback shield — exhausting to sustain
- ◆Gentle hand-glow — comfort and minor illumination
- ◆Ether/Web vision — rare, involuntary glimpses of the Web
- ◆Ethereal voices — very rare, fragmentary
- ◆Ruin activation beams — interfaces with ancient structures via tattoos
- ◆Large azure ethereal wall — unstable, random, and not under his control; roots enemies but also roots Thomas
- ◆Overcharge Ruin Blast — cleanses Dark Web beings; risk of self-harm
- ◆Developing: concentrated burst (unstable if held too long) and rapid flame spray — neither yet under his control
Costs & Stakes
Power surges leave Thomas exhausted; sustained shields and walls can root him in place. The overcharge ability risks serious harm, though he has self-healed so far. His deepest fear is that Astrylis's shadows might find their way back to Earth. Beneath the power lies a wound of identity — he doesn't know where he belongs, or whether he was chosen or simply unlucky.
Tome I → Tome II Arc
Thomas arrives disoriented, surviving on instinct and the goodwill of strangers. By the end of Tome I he has shifted from a boy enduring his power to a young man beginning to own it. In Tome II he steps into his role as a genuine catalyst — no longer reacting to events but actively engaging with ancient ruins and the deeper currents of the Ethereal Web.
